We have known for a long time that you hardly lose weight from a lot of exercise. Losing weight can only be achieved structurally if you change your diet. Glenn Gaesser, a professor of exercise physiology at Arizona State University in Phoenix, asked a different question: Eating less than exercising makes you leaner. But do you also live longer if you are slim? Or if you move a lot?

So Gaesser, along with his colleague Siddharta Angadi, dug into the databases of previous studies and examined everything written related to diet, exercise, fitness, metabolic health and longevity.

In total, they found more than 200 relevant meta-studies and individual studies, writes HLN. The key question of Gaesser and his colleague was: does a heavy person become more vital by to lose weight, of door to move? The answer to that question was clear: “When comparing the results, the benefits of getting fitter outweighed the benefits of losing weight.”
