Some love them, others their music is completely foreign, yet there is probably no one in the Czech Republic who would not know the famous singing duo. Eva and Vašek have won the hearts of many Czechs, but currently they are moving mainly around the United States. In an exclusive interview for TN.cz, the couple clarified what is happening with the alleged disintegration of their band and confided in what their current life looks like.
White orchid, Ave Maria, Silver in hair. These are just some of the hits that made the singing duo Eva and Vaška famous. A few years ago, the Czech media reported that the band had disbanded and the singer had embarked on a solo career. In an interview for TN.cz, Václav Ševčík refuted this information and called it misinformation and half-truths.
“Eva and I have been playing since 1989. So it’s been over 32 years,” he said. However, because Eva and Vašek did not perform only in the Czech Republic, they encountered a problem abroad with the pronunciation of the names Vašek or Ševčík. For this reason, Eva Ševčíková adopted the stage name Eva Adams on the occasion of her 45th birthday.
They continue to perform together, even though Mrs. Eva also has individual performances. “We still sing and play together, but why can’t Eva Adams show the audience what she learned at the Brno Conservatory and developed her practice in 30 years of singing around the world and at home. The Eva Adams concert is definitely more interesting than the Eva without Vašek concert,” said Mr. Vaclav.
He never considered himself a singer. “I took music as a need for people,” he said. At present, he focuses mainly on the technical side of the music world, but he certainly did not betray singing. “I sing when I feel like a few times a week, but I only accept new songs when I come across one that interests me and I think it would please the listeners,” he revealed.
“But I’m different from Eva. I’m definitely not made for my solo career,” he added.
Life in the USA
In the United States, where Eva and Vašek have been working since 2016, they say they are doing well. “Vašek and I have 14 to 17 performances a week,” confided the famous singer. Hard work is behind their success.
“Here in the US, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever known in terms of getting the opportunity to play. No subsidies and no promotion of friends. The organizer will say: Come and introduce yourself for free, then I’ll tell you yes or no, and if so, if they’re not satisfied. listeners, that’s the end of it, “Eva Ševčíková described working behind a large puddle.
Nevertheless, Eva and Vašek see great benefits in life in the United States. In addition to the professional ones, they also praise the climate in Florida. “I like it here, I’m a thermophilic person, so I really enjoy it here. We live a completely normal life here. We have a lot more time for ourselves here, I mean family,” said the singer.
“But he’s at home at home. You miss that here and you will miss it. We miss the Czech landscape and friends,” added her husband. This is confirmed by Mrs. Eva. “Our common house in Moravia, a coniferous forest that I can look at from the window of our room,” he recalls.
“The pandemic has hit us like everyone else”
The longing for the Czech Republic is all the greater because the coronavirus pandemic has affected travel. Before the covid began to rage, Eva and Vašek returned to their homelands in mid-April and flew to Florida again in October. Of course, the virus also affected their performance. “Everything stopped from day to day on March 15. We could start playing again in six months. We had to cancel the tickets,” says Eva.

“It affected us like all people on this planet,” stated Václav Ševčík. “It’s not hard for us as artists, but as parents and employers it’s still difficult,” he added.
Despite all this, they were able to find positives in this situation as well. “Covid-19 braked us, dampened our work, but connected even more,” the singer revealed. The couple live in Florida with their daughter Evička, who is also musically gifted.
Eva and Vašek could visit the Czech Republic again next year if the situation is favorable. However, they do not plan to stay here permanently, both of them still want to return to the United States. But they do not consider them home. “I would like to be able to keep coming back to Florida, singing and living here, but home is home. It is settled in me forever,” Mrs. Eva concluded.
