EXA Icefighters Leipzig travel to Krefeld with eleven field players

Lesedauer: ca. 1 Minute

The first game of the calendar year leads the EXA Icefighters Leipzig to the Krefeld EV. The two teams have already crossed paths twice this season. Twice the points could just stay in Leipzig.

The young team of head coach Elmar Schmitz has long since arrived in the Oberliga Nord. After long start-up problems last season, the “Junge Wilde” have already made a few calls. Victories and points won against teams from Herne, Hanover Scorpions, Hamburg or Halle speak for themselves. The Krefeld team are led by Adrian Grygiel. But they can all produce goals. Defensively, the Krefeld team have grown up a lot. So there will be a lot of hard work waiting for the EXA Icefighters Leipzig.

On Sunday there will be the fourth and last meeting with the Herford Ice Dragons. After a somewhat longer dry spell, the dragons were able to set a clear example against the Hanover Indians and were able to decide the game for themselves. The last game in Herne also looked like a possible point win for a long time. Jeff Job’s team is one of the three climbers and so far the best-placed newcomer. The veterans Ralf Rinke, Marius Garten and Björn Bombis were able to lead their team to points in all games against our ice fighters. After a narrow victory in the first duel, two defeats followed after extra time.

“Our team will have to go to the limits and maybe even beyond, because the list of players who can be used has dropped significantly again,” said coach Sven Gerike before the upcoming weekend. With just eleven players and two goalkeepers, the EXA Icefighters Leipzig make their way to Krefeld. Maximilian Spöttel joined the well-known failures of Esa Hofverberg, Alexander Zille, Oliver Noack and Leon Lilik. His foot is so swollen that he cannot ice-skate. Florian Eichelkraut, Tim Heyter and Ryan Warttig also injured themselves during the last game and are definitely not available. And last but not least, Hannes Albrecht stayed at home. His wife is expecting their second child and the likelihood that he will be needed as a father soon is relatively high.

The first bully in the Rheinlandhalle in Krefeld is today at 6 p.m.
