At first glance, there is nothing particularly complex or innovative about The Day Before. A third-person MMO with elements of zombie survival horror like The Division and Day-Z. Throw in some pretty graphics, crafting, and realistic driving, and you’ve got the most coveted game on Steam.
Or what used to be the most desired game. The Day Before mysteriously disappeared from the platform at night, and the developers from Fntastic first cited technical problems on Steam, and then simply claimed trademark problems, and therefore postponed the game until November 10, 2023, promising that new footage gameplay will be shown as soon as the trademark issue is resolved. But think about it, the game was supposed to come out in early March, and it still didn’t have a trademark.
Fans have already been skeptical of this excuse, with some accusing Fntastic itself of removing The Day Before’s trailer and screenshots before shutting down the store page. Now there is mounting evidence that The Day Before may not be a real game at all.
According to Skill Up, Discord mod host The Day Before “Wholf” is beginning to question the existence of the game. “Those who are wondering if the game exists,” he wrote, “I am now asking myself this question too.” Wholf also confirmed that none of the modding team saw the actual gameplay.
Fntastic has already released quite a few compelling gameplay trailers, but they’ve always been pre-recorded. We have never seen anyone play the development build live. There is no demo or anything other than Fntastic saying the game even exists. As far as we know, all previous trailers were just cutscenes created in Unreal.
The Day Before isn’t the only game that can be completely fake. Blue Box Studios’ Abandoned game is also considered defunct after years of development, false rumors, and a prologue that consisted of no more than a few seconds of footsteps in a dark room.
