Even professional athletes can train for a maximum of six

The government on Monday, effective from Wednesday, limited the gathering to a maximum of six people. This is practically true, with athletes having no exception, even though this activity is their job. “It is true that professionals as well as normal people can train in a maximum of six people outside. This is the interpretation we now have,” NSA spokesman Jakub Večerka told ČTK today.

The chairman of the agency, Milan Hnilička, is discussing exceptions for international events that are to take place in the Czech Republic this week and next. This concerns the women’s tennis tournament WTA Tour in Ostrava, which should start on October 19, Saturday’s gala evening MMA Oktagon 17 in Brno and the duels of the first round of the European Football League, in which Sparta and Liberec are to play at home on October 22. Chief Hygienist Jarmila Rážová should decide on them on Wednesday.

Also on Wednesday, the government could discuss a compensation program for professional sports clubs and organizers of sports events, in the preparation of which the agency cooperates with the Ministry of Industry and Trade. It should have half a billion crowns available.

“The sports industry also has a lot of employees, professional athletes, representatives and their job is to play competitions, or they are preparing for the Olympics. I am negotiating intensively with Minister Prymula. For example, the highest football competition has taken really strict measures to comply with all health measures. The hockey extra league was very similar, “recalled the two most watched competitions, Hnilička, which would like to make life easier for people who are at home and have limited opportunities due to the state of emergency by renewing the sport.

“If we have to be home now, it would be useful for us to have something to watch on TV. And it’s not just about football and hockey, we have other interesting competitions. I am aware of the difficult epidemiological situation, I believe that Minister Prymula wants to protect our citizens, but sport is a great tool to help, at least mentally, when people have limited activities, “Hnilička added for Czech Television.

However, the indoor training remains completely frozen so far, which applies to ice hockey, indoor ball sports and a number of individual sports. Indoor sports grounds remain closed to professionals, in the hectic times of recent days, they have not yet received an exception.

Some have moved to camps abroad, as swimmers or judokas have done. The best Czech squash player Daniel Mekbib also went to Poland. “For how long, I don’t know yet, but for at least two weeks,” he said in a press release. He doesn’t even want to remember the spring closing in the Czech Republic. “Instead of attacking my personal highlights in tournaments, I was sitting at home watching Netflix. I really don’t want to do that again,” he said.

International squash tournaments have already started and the Czech national team also wants to play them. For example, in three weeks, many of them have a planned event in Salzburg, so even if only the announced two-week training outage is devastating for their form.

Badminton players are also in a critical situation, who cannot practice their sport outdoors. Adam Mendrek is preparing for the Olympic qualification and also for the German Bundesliga. He has problems with that because the Germans do not want to recognize Czech tests. “They don’t trust them. I would always have to quarantine before the match, at least for three days, plus get tested in Germany. They also offered me the opportunity to return to Germany and stay training for a long time, but I already have commitments in the Czech Republic and I want to stay here, “he lamented.

As of Monday, all amateur and professional sports competitions have been stopped in the Czech Republic. This measure is still valid until October 25. The Minister of Health Roman Prymula said last week that at least the professional competitions will be relaxed, but this may change due to the adoption of even stricter restrictions on Monday.
