“Even an empty country still gives too much nitrogen” – The Daily Standard

Researchers from the Mesdag Dairy Fund do come with a very remarkable conclusion. Even if our country were empty, there would be too much nitrogen with the current rules. Gross exaggeration, or reality? In any case, the tone is set, the Dutch government must adjust its narrow rules because this is no longer the case!

Geesje Rotgers of the Mesdag Dairy Fund has reviewed the figures of the RIVM herself, and she comes to a special conclusion.

“You can put a fence around the Netherlands and throw away the key, but some plants still get too much nitrogen on their heads”

The RIVM should of course not like this message, they believe that the bigger picture is not being looked at. For example, Rotgers does not include foreign gusts of wind – which also contains nitrogen. A reduction of our own emissions ensures that external emissions do not damage our landscape so badly.

“Emissions of nitrogen oxides and to a lesser extent of ammonia are also being reduced abroad. Before 2030, Germany has committed itself to reducing 65 percent of its nitrogen dioxide emissions and 29 percent of its ammonia compared to 2005 emissions. Contributions from abroad will therefore decrease and the effect of the domestic contribution will be greater “,

We will probably have more of these well-being conversations in the coming period. The farmers will logically choose the side of the Mesdag Dairy Fund. Because those conclusions are much more positive for the agricultural sector.
