According to the current quarterly report for the third quarter, Germany’s flag carrier suffered billions in losses despite the high turnover in the summer and, as a result of the increasingly problematic development of the crisis, had to reduce its flight capacity to 25 percent for the upcoming winter season. But in fact, with the new long-distance destination Barbados, there is again a ray of hope in the gloomy times. In this context, the Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings will start its direct flight connection to the easternmost Caribbean island from Frankfurt this week and then plans to fly non-stop to the island twice a week.
Thursdays and Saturdays to the Caribbean
After most travel destinations were reopened for international tourism from June onwards, with a view to the summer season, the Caribbean islands had welcomed tourists again since then. Although the Federal Office of Public Health is currently advising against unnecessary tourist trips, the island state is not on the List of risk countries by the BAG to find. In the Caribbean country, the local situation seems to be relatively moderate and under control with currently three new infections within the last 24 hours. Lufthansa recently announced that it would be flying to the island from Frankfurt twice a week from Thursday, October 29th – every Thursday and Saturday. as fvw.de announced. Important entry restrictions apply to ensure that the number of infections remains moderate despite visitors from other countries on the island and that the local residents are not exposed to any increased risk. Travelers from countries with a medium or high risk of infection, as is currently the case in Switzerland, require proof of a negative corona test, which must not be older than 72 hours, to enter the country. In addition, all visitors from “high” or “medium-risk” countries are obliged to undergo a further test after two to three days of quarantine, for which costs of up to 160 Swiss francs can be incurred in a hotel, but in the hospital again free of charge.
Tour operator DER-Touristik debuts Covid protection
But the hotel openings and regular flight connections of the Lufthansa subsidiary are not only good news for Caribbean fans, the new announcements, especially by the airline, should also be of interest to tour operators. For this reason, the DER-Touristik company has introduced corona protection for its guests, which includes hotel costs including a new return flight with a total value of 3,700 francs. Christian Schütte, Caribbean Product Manager at DER-Touristik astonishingly estimates the booking situation and prospects in the coming period to be very high, although the infection situation is worsening worldwide.

The international travel company sees the local health concept as very reliable and “convincing” for its customers, as does the crane airline, which classifies the destinations as very safe. With a relatively inexpensive entry-level price of 609 francs for the return flight (in economy class), the airline hopes to attract more customers. In addition, the island recently started a home office campaign under the name “Welcome Stamp”, which could be of particular interest to German or Swiss visitors. The content of this campaign is to relocate his home office to the popular island. So far, 17 Germans have already made friends with the concept. Despite the many negative news that are now rolling over daily due to the crisis, the travel prospects over the winter are not entirely hopeless. From this Thursday, the crane airline will be sending its subsidiary Eurowings to the Caribbean on the island of Barbados twice a week.
