European Sleeper hopes to launch night train to Barcelona in 2025 | inland

“We are aiming for the spring of 2025 to launch a night train between Amsterdam and Barcelona”, with stops in Antwerp and Brussels. That is what the Dutch-Belgian rail initiative European Sleeper says, the day after it was announced that the project will receive support from the European Commission.

After departing from Amsterdam, the night train to Spain would stop in the evening in Rotterdam, Antwerp, Brussels and Lille, and in the morning in the southern French cities of Avignon, Montpellier and Perpignan, and the Spanish cities of Figueres, Girona and Barcelona.

The European support will help European Sleeper “overcome existing obstacles such as capacity allocation and financing of rolling stock”.

The connection to Barcelona is to become European Sleeper’s second night train route. The first one will start on May 25: Brussels-Amsterdam-Berlin. Ticket sales start on February 20. This connection, which also includes a stop in Antwerp, would be extended to Dresden and Prague in 2024.
