European countries express concern about Iran’s plan for further uranium enrichment

According to Israeli media, the outage is the result of a cyber attack, carried out by the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad. The Iranian nuclear program would have been seriously damaged. The Israeli government neither confirms nor denies the accusation.

Rohani called the decision a response to Israel’s “wickedness”. That country would be out to sabotage the negotiations on a new nuclear deal.

He also said that the centrifuges damaged in the Natanz attack will be replaced by more modern ones. This could speed up the enrichment process.

3.67 percent

In the nuclear accord that Iran concluded with France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the US, Russia and China in 2015, it was agreed that Iran could only enrich uranium for scientific and economic purposes. An enrichment of 3.67 percent was enough for that. In return, economic sanctions against Iran would be lifted.

In 2018, the US withdrew its support for the accord. According to then President Trump, the deal actually enabled Iran to continue developing a nuclear weapon. Iran withdrew last year also back out of the agreement.

Negotiations are underway at the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna to revive the agreement. President Biden is in favor of this, Israel is against it.
