Status: 17/08/2022 00:51

Gina Lückenkemper is the new sprint queen in Europe! The Westphalian defeated the entire continent’s elite in the 100m final. Disc thrower Kristin Pudenz unleashed a dramatic exchange of blows with reigning champion Sandra Perkovic. It was a thriller at the European Championships in Munich 2022. On a day that ultimately turned into a German triumph.

Lückenkemper was at best considered an outsider in the 100m final, at least three competitors were rated higher due to their previous performance. But the 25-year-old was completely focused at the right time.

The runner-up of the 2018 European Championship, who otherwise had some weaknesses at the start, came out well from the blocks and really picked up speed in the second half of the race. In the end, three riders were more or less tied and the photo finish brought it to light: third place in the World Cup relay had a slim lead with a time of 10.99 seconds.

Attracted by emotions

Pure joy with a bandaged knee

The rest was pure joy and unbridled jubilation, even though Lückenkemper suffered a flesh wound when she fell across the finish line, which was then stitched up in the hospital with eight stitches. It is still unclear whether the start of the season is at risk.

With a bleeding leg, the winner celebrated in the ARD interview with the first hearing in Munich: “The setting here, the enthusiasm of the people – that really pushed me. I still can’t really believe the result.”

At the European Championships in Munich the fastest woman in Europe on 100 meters was chosen.

Gina Lückenkemper is delighted after the EM gold in the 100 meters and reveals that she has barely competed.

Swiss indoor world champion Mujinga Kambundji also finished second with 10.99 seconds. Third was the British Daryll Neita, only a hundredth of a second slower.

Pudenz offers a thrilling duel with Perkovic

Three German athletes made it to the discus final with Kristin Pudenz, Claudine Vita and Shanice Craft. And the final battle became a thriller. Pudenz and Sandra Perkovic, 32, traded hard blows.

After his Covid 19 illness, Mihambo gave the green light to start in Munich only on Friday. Although the 28-year-old had been ill for ten days, she had the Corona “Of course it hasn’t lost so much substance”.
