Europe wants to get rid of chaos telephone chargers | Financial

No standard

The commission had asked producers years ago to voluntarily come up with one standard for chargers, but despite a reduction there are still several types. The European Parliament recently again insisted on a universal charger for smartphones, tablets and other portable digital devices. The call is expected to be confirmed by a vote on Thursday.

Waste mountain

The European Commission previously estimated that around € 300 million is wasted annually by unusable chargers. According to estimates, the waste mountain would grow every year by 51,000 tonnes.

The most important tech company with a plug that is only suitable for charging its own products is Apple. The American company states that a mandatory universal charger is a brake on innovation.
