Servette is celebrating again on the international stage!
–
Eight years after the last European appearance – and the then out against Rosenborg in Europa League qualifying round three – the Geneva team beat MFK Ruzomberok 3-0 at home. Miroslav Stevanovic (54th), newcomer Arial Mendy (77th) and Alexis Antunes (86th) ensure with their goals that the Grenats eliminate the Slovak opponent – and so are in the second qualifying round of the Europa League.
–
The fact that Antunes scored the 3-0 from offside does not matter in the end. Far too little comes from the opponent overall. The Servette victory is well deserved!
–
Now against Tottenham or Milan?
Goalie Jérémy Frick said after the game to «SRF»: «It was just fun. We knew we had nothing to lose here. In the end, a result came out that is good for Swiss football. “
–
The next Servette opponent will be drawn on Monday. The second qualifying round will take place on September 17th. Real blasts could be waiting! Tottenham, Milan, Wolfsburg, Galatasaray and Cedric Itten’s Glasgow Rangers are among the seeded teams.

Vaduz fails due to Malta underdog
For FC Vaduz, the Europa League season is over before it has even started. The Liechtensteiners surprisingly lose 2-0 to Hibernians at home in the Rheinpark. Striker Degabriele hits twice (34th / 56th). For the Maltese third in the table last season, it is the first serious fight since March. And the kickers from the Mediterranean island shock the disappointing FCV with a cheeky appearance – and in the end, despite being sent off in the 64th minute, they even have a top chance to make it 3-0. Winchester only hits the post.
–
This means that nothing will come of a repetition of last year’s sensational run by Vaduz in the Europa League qualification. Twelve months ago, the Ländle club failed only in qualifying round three – to Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt. (mpe)
