Europa League: Frankfurt is in the final, Leipzig is out

Eintracht Frankfurt also wins in the second leg against West Ham United. For RB Leipzig, on the other hand, the Glasgow Rangers were over.

Eintracht Frankfurt also reached the final of the Europa League thanks to a 70-minute majority. By beating West Ham United 1-0 (1-0) in the second leg of the semifinals, the Hessians made it into a European Cup final for the first time in 42 years. Coach Oliver Glasner’s team won the first leg 2-1 in London.

Rafael Borre (26th) scored in the atmospheric Frankfurt Arena for the Hessians, who are chasing the title in the final on May 18th in Seville. After 1960 and 1980, it would be the third trophy on the European stage for the SGE. West Ham’s Aaron Cresswell (17th, according to video evidence) saw the red card early because of an emergency brake.

Three years ago, Eintracht failed in the semi-finals of the Europa League at Chelsea.

The final opponent comes from Scotland

In Glasgow, on the other hand, RB experienced a rude awakening. Despite the 1-0 lead from the first leg, RB has to bury the dream of the final. James Tavernier (18′), Glen Kamara (24′) and John Lundstram (80′) fired the Scots, who had already knocked out Borussia Dortmund, into their first international final since the 2008 UEFA Cup final.

Christopher Nkunku (70th) scored for Leipzig, who suffered the next setback. In the league, the Saxons slipped out of the premier class ranks after two defeats. After Glasgow’s bankruptcy, there is still a chance for the title in the DFB Cup final on May 21 against SC Freiburg.

It was difficult at the beginning – and what shouldn’t happen happened quickly. Ryan Kent broke through on the left, sped into the box and found Tavernier at the far post, who had to push in – Ibrox was seething. And the Rangers followed suit. Scott Wright was far too easily able to allude to the free camera on the edge of the penalty area. His well-placed shot rushed into the bottom left of the net and in the cheering dance a red body of smoke flew from the ranks onto the lawn.

But RB came back once more when Nkunku sunk in an Angelino cross. Suddenly extra time was within reach – but Lundstram destroyed all hopes.
