EU Extends Ban on Food Imports from Ukraine to Five Countries Until September 15

“It is still necessary that products such as wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower from Ukraine, competing for the same storage space, be imported for consumption or processing into the EU territory in all countries except Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia,” the document says.

It is noted that the decision comes into force from the moment of publication and will be valid until September 15.

The European Commission has also created a joint coordination platform to coordinate the efforts of Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia, as well as Ukraine. This will help improve trade flows between the Union and Ukraine, including the transit of agricultural products.

Ban on import from Ukraine

The European Union imposed restrictions on Ukrainian food imports on May 2 to ease the oversupply of grain in Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. These countries complained that cheaper Ukrainian grain made domestic production unprofitable.

In this regard, the European Commission allocated 100 million euros to support EU farmers. The decision is aimed at defusing the situation around Ukrainian grain.

Today it became known that the European Commission plans to extend the ban on food imports from Ukraine to five EU countries until September 15.
