EU candidate status for Ukraine – Kuleba called a turning point on this path

The turning point in obtaining the status of an EU candidate for Ukraine was the visit to Kyiv of French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi and Romanian President Klaus Johannis.

He noted that the list of countries-skeptics of granting Ukraine the status of a candidate member of the EU was well known for a long time. In particular, it included the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Portugal – they all had certain visions. Germany was also in this camp.

“The turning point was the visit of the four leaders to Kyiv last Thursday and their conversation with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. I can open the scenes, on Friday the next day the position of the European Commission was made public, but on Thursday, at the time of the leaders’ visit, the final version of this document It was not. It was a very fragile process, but everything worked out,” the Foreign Minister said.

Kuleba stressed that Macron played an important role in this event, because it was during the French presidency that this decision was made.
