Essen police president: chat groups not right-wing extremist – Ruhr area – news

Last year, the scandal surrounding right-wing extremist chat groups caused a stir among the police in Essen and Mülheim. For years, officials in several WhatsApp groups are said to have sent right-wing and right-wing extremist content. Now the report from a special inspection is apparently available. Accordingly, there should no longer be any talk of a right-wing extremist network.

Report not yet published

At least that is what the Essen police chief Frank Richter, who, according to the knowledge of the German press agency, should have the final draft of the report. An internal inspection by his authority had examined the incidents for weeks. The report has not yet been published and the ministry did not want to comment on it.

Letter to the NRW interior minister

According to the German press agency, the Essen police chief has now written a letter to the NRW interior ministry. In it he expressed his displeasure with an article in the police newspaper “Die Streife”. She had spoken of “right-wing extremism in the NRW police” on its front page. Richter complained to the Ministry of the Interior that he had not been informed about the content beforehand and asked to wait for the final report.

The prosecution is still investigating

NRW Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) had announced the special inspection last September, after chat groups within the police had been uncovered for the first time, in which incitatory content was shared in some cases. At the same time, the Duisburg public prosecutor’s office is investigating several officers from the Essen / Mülheim police force.
