Escobar foldable smartphone turns out to be a Samsung scam – Instant Interview

It turned out to be a good old fashioned scam.

Pablo Escobar was without a doubt the best of Netflix Narcos, but added little to the smartphone industry. An older brother of the deceased drug lord came with a high-level foldable smartphone, but after further investigation by popular YouTuber technology, we know that the smartphone brand Escobar is just as bad for you as cocaine.

Maybe it was a little too good to be true; the Escobar Fold 1 would be a flexible smartphone for € 350. It looks strangely like the Flexpai but let’s ignore that. Shortly after, the same brand offered an Escobar Fold or 2. And it also became famous for … Samsung Galaxy Fold, anyone?

YouTuber and main tech journalist Marques Brownlee got to the bottom of things after not getting the first Escobar Fold. In the video below, he says that the Escobar Fold was never delivered. Instead, he received an “upgrade” months later (after ordering the Escobar Fold 2 again for around € 400).

He received Fold 2 instead of Fold 1, but heard nothing of the second order. Why not? Because he ordered this second foldable smartphone under a different name. He got the device with his real name well known and influential, but as a “regular” consumer, he heard nothing.

It all turned out to be part of a gigantic scam where initially the Flexpai and later the Samsung Galaxy Fold with a painfully bad gold sticker were “renamed” to Escobar Fold. The devices were only sent to personalities in the tech world and B stars were also hired to advertise (unsuspectingly) the brand.

And so the brand tried to make money; by sending very expensive Galaxy Folds to tech enthusiasts who would probably report it. For example, unsuspecting consumers should be persuaded to order the device, but we never would have received it.

Brownlee, of course, best tells the whole story itself; you can check this below:
