The Norwegian had just returned from a week-long injury break and Dortmund’s best striker is now in danger of failing again. A foul in the international match against Armenia is to blame, after which he was substituted.
Will Borussia Dortmund have to do without their top striker again? Before the game against RB Leipzig on Saturday evening (6.30 p.m. in the Live ticker at t-online) the second in the Bundesliga worries about goalscorer Erling Haaland.
BVB coach Marco Rose confirmed at the press conference on Thursday that the Norwegian is unlikely to play against Leipzig. “Erling Haaland is very questionable. The foot is completely bent, the ankle is very swollen.”

Haaland sustained the injury on Tuesday in the international test match against Armenia, which the Scandinavians won 9-0. He scored twice but was hit badly in the ankle by opponent Mkrtchyan on his second goal in injury time in the first half. The BVB star twisted his ankle and lay in pain next to the goal instead of cheering. He was then escorted into the dressing room by supervisors and did not return to the pitch for the second half.
Norway’s assistant coach Kent Bergersen said during the break on TV2: “It was a tough half-time for Erling. There was a lot of blood on his ankles, so we’re resting him.” Head coach Stale Solbakken explained after the game that Haaland wanted to continue playing. The words of BVB coach Rose sounded less optimistic. Final certainty will probably only bring the last investigations before the Leipzig game.
