Erling Braut Haaland, Bundesliga | Haaland about the monster race against Gladbach:

The Norwegian national team star reached 35 kilometers per hour before he put in 3-0 in the series opener.

Erling Braut Haaland scored two goals when Borussia Dortmund opened the Bundesliga season against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday.

That the Norwegian continues to score goals may not be startling in itself, but the 20-year-old’s performance before the last goal has received a lot of attention.

Haaland was in the zone on the first post on a corner against when Jadon Sancho won the ball just outside his own penalty area, and accelerated towards the Gladbach goal.

Behind the lightning-fast Englishman, however, came Jærbutoget, who set full speed over almost the entire course, before he was played free inside Gladbach’s penalty area and put in 3-0.

The counterattack was hailed by, among others, Viasport commentator Lars Tjærnås live, and the numbers behind the counterattack are, if possible, even more impressive.

After the match, the Bundesliga released a video that showed how far and how fast Haaland ran when he first forced past teammate Sancho, before he then knocked the ball into goal.

The graphics show that the former Salzburg star ran 93 meters before he reached the ball, while he reached a top speed of an incredible 35 kilometers per hour on the road.

In comparison, Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies’ goal was 35.3 kilometers per hour last season when he took a return run to win the ball from Haaland.

As a result, he almost entered the top 10 above the highest top speed ever measured in the Bundesliga.

See the score at the top of the case!

– Someone said I had broken the world record in 100 meters

Nor did Haaland’s monster race go unnoticed this weekend, and on Twitter he is called, among other things, «current Terminator».

Tjærnås was also quick with the superlatives after commenting on the score on Saturday.

– The question is simply whether we have already in round one seen this year’s counterattack. For more beautiful than what Dortmund does here, is not possible to do. Look at that monster run by Haaland, and at the extreme sensitivity of Sancho’s passing. It is an aesthetic pleasure, quite simply, he exclaimed.

Haaland himself has also been asked about the scoring, and in a major interview with the local newspaper Ruhr news he states that someone came up to him after the match.

– Immediately after the match, someone came up to me and said that I had broken the world record in 100 meters. At first I almost believed it. Even along the way, I had the feeling that it went pretty fast, he laughs, and adds that he did athletics when he was younger.

– It paid off now!

– I’m obsessed with scoring

In the Ruht Nachrichten interview, Haaland also eases the veil on how important it is for him to score goals.

– You already know that I love goals, and that I like to score. I am obsessed with scoring goals, he says in the interview.

The national team striker says that he often looks at both his own and others’ goals in replay to analyze both shooting technique, positioning and movement pattern.

– I analyze all these small details that can help me score more goals.

He is also aware that last season had potential for improvement – despite scoring an incredible 44 goals in total.

– I could easily have scored more than 50 goals. It’s not meant to be arrogant, but it’s just a good thing that shows the potential is there. I will try to work with different things and continue to get better, the Norwegian answers.
