Erfurt wants to support retail after corona lockdown

The city of Erfurt wants to accommodate retailers who have been badly hit by the corona pandemic. Mayor Andreas Bausewein (SPD) announced on Wednesday that several offers of help are being talked to with city management, which could quickly take effect after the lockdown. Among other things, lower parking fees and targeted advertising campaigns are being thought of in order to bring customers back to the city center. Parking in city car parks could become free of charge for the first two hours.

Bausewein: No dead inner cities after the pandemic

After the pandemic, the Erfurt tourism and marketing company should increasingly advertise retail and the shopping experience. The situation in the retail trade is extremely dramatic, said Bausewein. The SPD politician called for special aid programs for retailers from the federal and state governments, similar to those for restaurateurs. Care must be taken to ensure that the inner cities are not dead cities with locked shops after the pandemic.
