In this article, we will detail the key highlights of the summit and what it means for the future of technology and science.

Last week (March 8-10), Paris hosted the Hello Tomorrow Global Summit, an important event for the deep tech industry that attracted more than 3,000 professionals. The summit featured various meetings, presentations, and exhibitions, with numerous companies showcasing their latest developments, particularly in the biotech and biopharma sectors. Among the participants were FreezeM CEO and co-founder, Dr. Yuval Gilad; Allogenica CEO and co-founder Inna Menkova; George Frodsham, founder and CEO of MediSieve; and Poulami Chaudhuri, co-founder and CEO of Helex Bio. In the following paragraphs, we highlight the companies and their innovations.

Allogenica, a French biotech start-up founded in January 2022, ranked third place in the Hello Tomorrow Global Challenge 2023, and won the Medical Biotech & Pharmaceuticals category. The company is developing universal cell therapies to treat certain forms of blood cancer (leukemia, lymphoma). Allogenica recently raised €500,000 ($530,000) in its first fundraising round to continue research and development towards industrialization. The start-up aims to offer a less expensive, safer and ready-to-use treatment to treat more patients with blood cancers.

Helex is an India-based biotech company specializing in gene editing. Its platform, built on proprietary bioinformatics and AI-powered systems, identifies unique sequences on the gene through data and machine learning to design high-precision gene-editing systems. The company’s platform prevents editing in unwanted tissues in cases of vector biodistribution. This is achieved through a Double Lock Safety system, which combines tissue-specific vector modifications with Hele-GUIDE tissue-specific guide RNA for greater safety.

MediSieve, a UK-based start-up, has developed magnetic blood filtration, a platform therapy that enables the physical removal of specific substances from the bloodstream of patients. It can be used as a direct treatment, to increase the safety and efficacy of other therapies, or to enable personalized medicine. The company, a spin-off from University College London, aims to use magnetic blood filtration as a treatment for sepsis, a life-threatening infection.

FreezeM is an Israeli-based company founded in 2018 that provides insect breeding and post-breeding solutions. The company has developed advanced biotechnology centered on black soldier fly (BSF) breeding, which helps increase alternative protein production capacity for livestock. Moreover, the black soldier fly helps to salvage scarce global farmland, decrease ocean exhaustion and repurpose organic waste. FreezeM reduces costs by an estimated 30% while increasing protein production capacity and efficiency by 25%. The company was selected to join the Google Startups for Sustainable Development program and was recently ranked by Dealflow as a company to watch in the industry. FreezeM raised €6.3 million ($6.69 million) in European Innovation Council (EIC) funding.

Overall, the Hello Tomorrow Global Summit was a gathering of notable innovation leaders, providing an opportunity for entrepreneurs, researchers and investors to share ideas, foster collaborations and promote progress in the deep tech industry. It highlighted the exciting developments and potential applications in various fields such as biotech, bioinformatics, gene editing, and sustainability.
