episode 2: “Training” of the French team in Nanterre

Throughout this month of August tinged with blue, white and red, we have the chance to follow the backstage of the French team in a mini-series entitled “Quotidien”, the second episode of which “Training was recently released. In the program ? Lots of words about the staff, a bit of Evan Fournier, but above all, basketball.

Vincent Poirier who comes to flex on us after having martyred a poor defenseless hoop? To start a match, you wouldn’t say no. In any case, this is how “Training” begins, the second episode of the “Daily” mini-series which will allow us to follow the Blues from the inside until the end of EuroBasket in September. A few days ago, we spoke to you in particular about episode one “Reunion”, where the absence of an element had saddened us: basketball.

As we could therefore suspect, it is now done with this second video capsule of just over two minutes. To Nanterre for almost a week to resume play in anticipation of the first preparation matches, our French were able to test the swelling again, for our greatest pleasure. Tomars all over the place, five against five, and-one from Maledon… our wards were able to feast, although, let’s be honest, we wouldn’t have said no to a few more actions. Our national Evan Fournier, recently appointed captain of the Blues, also returns to the importance of these training sessions:

“When you’re in the France team, you have a competition, you have a month of preparation, to prepare yourself… we’re not here to be happy, you see? We have to work, we have to move forward, we have to progress because there is a goal behind it. You have to be smart about training. You have to pay attention to your body, it’s important. We mustn’t burn ourselves out, but we must do as much as possible because it’s short, and casually it’s been a year since we’ve played together. So you have to recreate the automatisms, that’s why it’s important to prepare. –Evan Fournier

The second big part of the video concerns the staff surrounding our Frenchies. From the second episode, it was indeed important to focus on those who accompany the players, and without whom nothing would be possible. To do this, it is the assistant-coach Ruddy Nelhomme who takes the floor for a large part of the 2 minutes 27, presenting in turn the men who work daily to take this team to the top. Well, the boss, we know, is Vincent Collet. To his sides, the same three assistants as for a bunch of years already: Pascal Donnadieu in charge of attack, Laurent Foirest in charge of defense, and Ruddy therefore, in charge of the relationship between… attack and defense . No need to innovate to perform.

It is then the turn of Bryan George, assistant coach in charge of the video, to be presented, before moving on to the physical trainer… whose name is not mentioned. Poor Manuel Lacroix, who nevertheless does essential work, as Nelhomme does not forget to point out. For those who regret the absence of doctors, physiotherapists, osteos, rest assured, our little finger tells us that they will appear very soon in the series. Finally, we note the mention of Joseph “Jo” Gomis, individual coach present in the staff since last year only, and whose arrival was welcome as Guerschon Yabusele points out:

“I think it’s important, between sessions, to be able to come and shoot with him or work on what you need to work on, to be really ready for a match. – Gershon Yabusele

The very short duration of the “Daily” format can certainly be frustrating, but we are still not going to spit on these two minutes of pure pleasure which allow us to have something in our mouths while waiting for the start of the festivities. And then, it must be said, whether it’s editing, rhythm or images, it’s work of remarkable quality and efficiency that is offered to us. So we meet for the next episode, where the serious things should have started.
