Epic releases Easy Anti-Cheat for Linux and Mac. Good news for Valve’s portable game console Steam Deck

Epic Games announced last week that Epic Online Service is now releasing support for its Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) anti-cheating system for Linux and Mac. This is something you do after releasing EAC for free to Windows earlier this year.

This also means that PC games for Valve’s upcoming game console Steam Deck, which will roll on a modified version of the Linux dist Arch Arch, will be able to take part in games with EAC that are ported to Linux. EAC will now also support Proton and Wine, which Steam Deck uses to play Windows games.

The Verge writes that this will make it possible to play games such as Apex Legends, Dead by Daylight, War Thunder, 7 Days to Die, Fall Guys, Black Desert, Hunt: Showdown, Paladins and Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Steam Deck.

So far, the anti-cheating system does not support BattlEye Steam Deck which means that games such as PUBG, Destiny 2 and Rainbow Six Siege currently will not be playing on Steam Deck. However, The Verge has been in contact with BattlEye and their CEO Bastian Sute says that they too are planning support for Steam Deck in one way or another.

Valve plans to start delivering pre-ordered Steam Deck in December. If you do not pre-order the console, it can now be reserved with delivery sometime after the second quarter of 2022. Prices on Steam Deck start at 419 euros (64GB) and then go up to 549 euros if you want 256GB of storage. If you want the most maxed out model with 512GB of storage, this costs 679 euros.
