Epic Games would like Apple to find Scott Forstall

Epic Games would like to take Scott Forstall’s deposition ahead of Apple trial slated for May. Problem, Apple does not seem to know where its former software boss and lieutenant Steve Jobs is, or how to reach him. A shame for the maker of the iPhone and one of the architects of its creation… or even a delaying maneuver.

Scott Forstall in 2017

Foss Patents a published a document of justice in which are detailed the efforts of Epic undertaken since mid-December to obtain from Apple the presence of Forstall so that he answers questions on the App Store.

Forstall, however, left Apple in October 2012 and not within best terms, following in particular failures for launching Plans in iOS 6, and reportedly also for his difficult relationships with other company officials, including Tim Cook. He then embraced a new, successful career in theatrical production.

Apple initially hinted that it accepted the participation of its former executive and promised, for more than a month, to give a date for his arrival. Then she explained that she had never assured that she could convince him to come.

Then, Apple said it had received no response from Scott Forstall and only gave Epic Games, as a means of contacting him directly, a Twitter handle and a post office box. La Pomme explained that she was not allowed to provide her former employee’s personal number and later implied that she no longer had her current number.

Epic wanted a deposition on February 11, Apple was considering it by March 10 instead. To this day the two parties have still not resolved this Scott Forstall localization problem. And Florian Mueller, the author of Foss Patents to speculate on the possible will of Apple not to scramble too much to bring in a Forstall who may have no reason to give gifts to his former employer.
