“From the first moment we detected unusual behavior in the prescription of certain drugs, we contacted the authorities with the information we had. And today we see the investigation by the Economic Police once again of an economic crime”, said the director of the EOPYY Theano Karpodini.

Every time we observe behaviors and practices that create even the slightest suspicion, we will appeal to Justice. EOPYY is here to serve patients and Public Health”, he emphasizes.
Mrs. Karpodini thanks the Economic Police for the continuous and kind cooperation throughout the investigation of the case up to the investigation of the actions of the organizations in question.
That’s how they got to the tracks of the circuits
The case began to unfold after a thorough investigation by the competent Services of the EOPYY. The files were sent to the Economic Police for investigation with indications of systemic fraud by doctors and pharmacists at the expense of EOPYY. The Economic Police, after its own investigation with its own means, ended up arresting doctors, pharmacists and others involved in two criminal organizations.
In particular, EOPYY combined and made use of the targeted combined controls that are systematically carried out by its competent Services for:
- the control of the prescription limit (ceiling) and the directed prescription of doctors,
- the execution of medicines in specific pharmacies,
- the prescription and execution of medicines of specific pharmaceutical companies,
- the observance of compensation restrictions on iron, vitamin D and magnesium medicines and narcotic substances, etc.,
- off-label drug prescriptions, drug overdoses,
- the complaints of insured persons for unknowingly prescribing medicines.
Among other things, more than 9,000 pharmaceutical preparations were seized, as well as 451,140 euros, with the total loss of the Organization due to the false prescription in 3,516 AMKA, exceeding 3,500,000 euros. Some of the drugs they falsely prescribed are in short supply.
Regardless of the referral of the cases to the Police, EOPYY continues the process of imposing sanctions as well as other actions to recover the loss of the Organization against all involved. It goes without saying that EOPYY will take legal action to safeguard its interests.
