Environment – Freiburg im Breisgau – Black Forest associations call for a reduction in traffic noise – Knowledge

Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – Several associations from the Black Forest are in favor of a significant reduction in engine noise. In a joint statement to Transport Minister Winfried Hermann and the noise protection officer Thomas Marwein (both Greens), traffic noise of all kinds must be reduced, especially in the country’s large protected areas. On Thursday, Hermann and Marwein want to discuss the issue of traffic noise at an online event with bikers, journalists and local politicians.

The “Motorcycle noise initiative” officially launched in July by the state of Baden-Württemberg and many municipalities is welcomed, the letter says. The signatories are the Black Forest Association, the Southern Black Forest and Central / North Black Forest, the Black Forest National Park, the Black Forest Biosphere Reserve and the Southern Black Forest Nature Conservation Center.

The enjoyment of nature and the special recreational value of the landscape are impaired by the noise. The most important goal must be to reduce the exposure of locals and guests to engine noise and to improve the opportunities to experience nature and landscape as well as your own home in peace. This request is now being made to the associations more and more frequently by both locals and visitors.

By the year 2030, the state government wants to significantly reduce noise pollution from road traffic at night – for example with the help of speed limits and an expansion of electric mobility. So far 150 municipalities have joined the initiative against motorcycle noise.
