Are you worried about deliveries in April and May?

«How not to be, after months of delays and cuts? But that’s enough now. The 50 million doses by June and the 80 million in the third quarter must be guaranteed, to vaccinate all Italians by the end of the summer ».

«I am confident in the change of pace that the government has announced and that we are beginning to see in part. The problem isn’t the organization, it’s that the doses are missing. The multinationals have not respected the contracts and I find it shameful that Astrazeneca cuts the supply again. I don’t know what still needs to happen for the EU to take very tough measures. We are talking about people’s lives ».

Do you want to remind the distressed regions too?

«I don’t allow myself to judge others. I know that in early May we will finish the over 80s with the double dose and in May the over 70s with Astrazeneca, hoping it will not be rejected. Here, the first signs are good. For science it is a safe drug, we must trust it. The numbers say it and Great Britain confirms it. Emilia-Romagna is the first major region for immunized people in relation to the population. If we had sufficient doses we would administer over a million a month ».

Be a over 80 out of three did not have the first dose, is the goal of 500,000 a day a mirage?

“I want to have faith in Draghi’s determination and in General Son, who has promised that the doses will increase. In Emilia-Romagna we have large hubs in every province that work until midnight and over 140 points distributed throughout the territory. Our pharmacies are doing a great job with tampons and are ready to do the same with vaccines. But many more are needed than those that have arrived so far ».

If they arrive, will you be able to keep up?

«We are ready to do them, as Commissioner Figliuolo was able to see for himself. Thursday I wanted to test the machine from Emilia Romagna, in one day we reached 31,000 without problems, but in order not to run out of doses we had to go back to the classic 20, 23,000 on average ».

Is it right to freeze bookings for former priority categories?

«We must complete the vaccinations of elderly and frail subjects because they are the most at risk. Departments and intensive therapies say with certainty where to start, in Emilia-Romagna we were already doing it ».

Zaia urges Draghi to search the market, even parallel, to find vaccines. Do you agree?

“Europe must enforce contracts and find as many vaccines as possible among those authorized. We have to vaccinate now and we will have to do it in the next few years, when the boosters will probably be needed. We cannot continue to depend on foreign supplies, let’s become independent by accelerating production in Italy ».

Are you pushing for reopening as early as April, or is it safer to wait for May?

“It is good not to deceive anyone, but a plan must be prepared. Where the curve falls below the risk thresholds, the wards are released and the vaccinations continue rapidly, the conditions must be created for possible safe reopening ».

“It is right for girls and boys to return to a normalcy that has been denied them for too long. I am sure that compliance with the rules will help to contain a risk that cannot be canceled ».

You had to hand over the leadership of the Conference to Fedriga. Will a Northern League president shift the policy of reopening to the right?

“I find it ridiculous that political forces are divided between openings and closures and those who do so go down in the polls. In these six years I claim to have always kept the regions united in comparison with the various governments and I am sure that Fedriga will be able to put the interests of citizens and communities in front of all the interests ».

You have been criticized for playing on the bank with Salvini. Read who meets him gives you reason?

«No play on the bank, my positions are often at odds with Salvini. After that it also happens to share single proposals. Lega and Pd are part of the same government and Letta is doing very well to take every initiative aimed at strengthening the executive and the centrality of the Pd ”.
