English stadiums will remain closed for the time being, serious consequences threaten

The Premier League has to do without spectators for the time being. The British government has suspended its plan to allow fans again in October until further notice due to the recent increase in the number of corona cases.

Unlike the Netherlands, the English professional clubs have been playing without an audience since March. There was a trial in progress in which a thousand spectators were allowed to be present, but this has also been closed. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the announced measures are likely to apply for the next six months.

700 million

The report that supporters will be banned from the stadiums for the time being has major consequences for the English clubs. According to Premier League general manager Richard Masters, it is “absolutely necessary” that fans get back in.

If the 2020/2021 season is played completely behind closed doors, he estimates that the Premier League will miss out on more than 700 million euros.
