England National Team will use a 3-4-3 formation against Italy in the final Euro 2020 (Euro 2021) at Wembley Stadium, London, Monday (12/7) early morning WIB.
Reported from Daily Mail, the change in formation threatened the position of Bukayo Saka, who later became a starter, had to sit on the bench. The place for Arsenal’s young players is prone to be replaced by Kieran Trippier.
In addition to Saka, Mason Mount’s place as a starter may also be shifted by Trippier. These two players will be fighting for a place as a starter to accompany Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling up front.
This 3-4-3 formation is nothing new for Kane et al. Although Southgate mostly uses a 4-2-3-1 formation, this formation relying on three defenders proved successful when eliminating Germany in the round of 16.
Germany was made unmoved by the British. The Three Lions won the match 2-0 thanks to goals from Sterling and Kane.
This formation change is Southgate’s way to minimize the threat from the Italian attack line. With the formation of three parallel defenders, Kyle Walker will act as a center back to accompany John Stones and Harry Maguire.
Trippier and Luke Shaw will act as wing backs in the match. Meanwhile, the duo Calvin Philips and Declan Rice remain the mainstays in the midfield.
Meanwhile, Italy is suspected of not making a change in tactics when they meet England. Coach Roberto Mancini still relies on a 4-3-3 formation that has proven successful in bringing them to the Euro 2020 final.
