English football mourns the loss of its former national goalkeeper Peter Bonetti. In Germany, Bonetti gained popularity mainly because of the duel at the World Cup in Mexico. At that time, he moved instead of the sick regular keeper Gordon Banks between the posts and conceded a goal at 2: 0 for England even against Franz Beckenbauer (68.), Uwe Seeler (82.) and Gerd Müller (108.). This seventh international was also the last for Bonetti.
At the 1966 World Cup in England, he had also previously been part of the English squad.
