England – Brentford in the final for last Premier League spot

London (SID) – Brentford FC is the first finalist in the promotion play-offs to the Premier League. The club from the west of London, third in the past second division season, won 3: 1 (2: 0) against Swansea City in the semi-final second leg, putting the 0: 1 from the first leg straight again.

The opponent in the fight for the last promotion spot will be determined on Thursday between FC Fulham and Cardiff City (first leg 2-0), the final at Wembley will take place next Tuesday. At stake is approximately EUR 200 million in additional revenue, which guarantees a place in the Premier League, primarily due to the lush TV contract.

Brentford, who was coached by Uwe Rösler (now Fortuna Düsseldorf) from 2011 to 2013, could move up to England’s elite league for the first time, following Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion.

Brentford is no ordinary football club: owner Matthew Benham has introduced an analytically sound approach off the field that is overseen by two co-directors. The aim is to make optimal use of the scarce resources compared to the championship’s more prosperous clubs.
