Culture tip for the BuchBasel 2021 literature festival

BuchBasel sets a new focus topic every year. This year it is: beauty, diversity, downfall. The theme focuses on nature and wants to show its beauty on the one hand, but also its destruction at the same time.

The aim is not to show the current crisis that all of our homes – the earth – are struggling with by means of bare numbers and rigid reports, but rather to convey the topic to the audience through touching texts and visual narratives.

Among other things, lyrical works, non-fiction books, novels and scientific findings are presented.

In addition, feminist content is another key point of the literature festival. Many authors, who address topics such as discrimination, equality or patriarchal power structures in their works, are part of this year’s festival program.

When selecting the authors, care was taken to ensure that regional and international writers as well as people from various backgrounds and age categories are represented.

The BuchBasel literary festival aims to make written words tangible and tangible and to convey literature in various ways. Various types of events such as readings, discussions with authors, discussion rounds, but also more unconventional events, such as a VR game or a relay reading, are on the program. These events are carried out partly digitally, partly on site.

This year’s BuchBasel can mainly be found in the Volkshaus, as well as on the Jazzcampus or in the KLARA.

You can find the whole program here.

You can’t physically attend BuchBasel 2021, but you definitely don’t want to miss the literature festival? Do not worry. Because: Because Radio X is right in the middle of it all. We broadcast live from KLARA for three days, conduct interviews with the authors and have them read from their works. In addition, we will also broadcast the presentation of the literature prize, which will take place on Sunday at 11.00 am.
