“Congratulations to the DRC government, @MinSanteRDC and the people of the DRC for this victory over one of the longest and deadliest Ebola epidemics in history.”

This is the 10th Ebola outbreak in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri, said the Regional Office for Africa of the World Health Organization (WHO).

He congratulated the heroes behind this important work that brought an end to the epidemic, which claimed the lives of 2,287 people, with 3,470 recorded cases, making it the second deadliest epidemic after the epidemic. ” Ebola that settled from 2014 to 2016 in West Africa.

WHO has noted on its website that huge efforts have been made to reach this milestone almost two years after the first cases in the region were reported on August 1, 2018.

A wide range of stakeholders including the DRC health authorities, the World Health Organization (WHO), the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, UNICEF, the Red Cross movement and “Other international and local partners, donors, researchers and communities have worked hard to end the Ebola epidemic,” he said.

“Despite security concerns, emergency response teams have been deployed in the towns and villages of Ituri and North Kivu, setting up treatment centers, searching for contacts, vaccinating people, transporting medicines and supplies and persuading communities to join the fight against Ebola, ”according to the WHO Africa regional office.

For an epidemic to be declared over, it is necessary that a period of 42 days is established since the last positive case was tested negative and was discharged from the hospital.
