EMPORIA, KS – Emporia State University’s women’s volleyball team boasts a core of returning players poised to anchor their defensive specialist and libero positions as they prepare for the 2025 season. The Hornets’ defensive lineup features a blend of experience, including international talent, and developing sophomores.
Leading the charge is Sydney Fiatte, entering her second season after transferring from Johnson County Community College. Fiatte demonstrated versatility last year,contributing significantly as both a libero and setter,finishing fourth on the team in digs and second in assists. Her expanded role as a dedicated libero is expected to be pivotal this season.
Sophomore Willow Deckinger is another key returner. Despite missing four matches during the previous season, Deckinger ranked fourth among Hornets in digs, showcasing her swift reflexes and dynamic playmaking ability. A strong spring training period focused on refining her passing and overall consistency.
Adding international experience to the roster is Boglarka Rady, a libero from Hungary.Rady brings a seasoned background, having competed in Hungary’s first division and represented her country at the U18 European Championships.Her presence is anticipated to provide stability to the libero position.
Brenna Smith, a sophomore, also returns to the team. smith saw action in four matches as a freshman and has been working to refine her back-row skills. She gained additional experience playing outside hitter during the spring season to broaden her skillset, but will focus solely on the back row this year.
The Hornets will kick off their regular season on Thursday, September 4, against Point Loma in san Diego, California. Their home opener is scheduled for Friday, September 26, against Missouri Western, marking the beginning of MIAA conference play.
