Emirates News Agency – Bahrain beat UAE by two goals to one in ‘Gulf 25’

BASRA, 7th January, 2020 (WAM) — The Bahrain national football team defeated our national football team 2-1 in the match that brought them together this Saturday evening at Basra’s Olympic Port Stadium in the opening of the second group competitions of the “Golfo 25” championship.
Bahrain’s goals were scored by Camille Aswad (60′) and Jassim Ahmed Al-Sheikh (77′), and substitute Tigali reduced the difference by scoring the UAE’s only goal in the minute (90′).
With this result, the Bahrain national team takes the lead in the second round table, awaiting the result of the match between Kuwait and Qatar, within the same group, which will see them reunited again this evening.
The UAE national team did not translate their first-half lead into a goal, especially in the first 30 minutes, when their players had more than one opportunity not exploited optimally.
The offensive effectiveness of the Bahrain national team only manifested itself in the last quarter of an hour of the first half, and Khaled Issa, the United Arab Emirates goalkeeper, managed to counter two dangerous balls, keeping his net clean.
In the second half, the Bahraini team managed to exploit their strong shooting ability, and anticipated the first goal thanks to their player Kamil Al-Aswad, who hit the ball from a free-kick from the edge of the box, which hit the Khaled Issa’s left corner in the minute (60), after which Jassim Ahmed added the second goal with a strong shot from the edge of the penalty area, Khaled Issa’s left corner also inhabited in the 77th minute.
Substitute Sebastian Tigali managed to narrow the gap by scoring the first goal for the Emirates with a header that hit the left post of Bahrain goalkeeper Sayed Jaafar and got into the net in the 90th minute.
