DUBAI, 19th January, 2020 (WAM) — The presidency of the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change was held, and “Dubai Cares” is part of the “Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives… a partnership to enhance the position of education in the face of change.” climate, during the Conference of the Parties (COP28), which will be held in Dubai Expo City from November 30 to December 12, 2023.
The announcement came on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum “Davos”, in the presence of His Excellency Ambassador Majid Al Suwaidi, Director General of the COP28 Bureau, and His Excellency Dr. Tariq Mohammed Al Gurg, CEO and Vice Chairman of Dubai Cares.
Dubai Cares is hosting its second edition of the Rewired Summit, a platform for global educational cooperation, which will focus on the importance of education in climate action, in conjunction with the COP28 Conference of the Parties. Dubai Cares will also mobilize public and private actors towards implementing new policies, financing methods and necessary technologies. To prepare students for a zero-emissions economy, and to facilitate access to education.
Recognizing the importance of integrating climate action and the education sector as key drivers of a sustainable and prosperous future, Dubai Cares, a civil society organization formally affiliated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications, will support COP28 efforts by bringing together climate action and education sector players from around the world with the aim of unifying their efforts for a common vision.
HE Ambassador Majid Al Suwaidi said that climate change is the main challenge of the current era, so it is necessary to empower societies with the knowledge and skills necessary to bring about change and contribute to meaningful work.
In turn, His Excellency Dr. Tariq Mohammed Al Gurg said that COP28 represents the UAE’s permanent commitment to addressing the climate crisis and accelerating progress towards a better, safer and more prosperous world. As the education partner of the conference, Dubai Cares is looking forward to supporting the UAE’s efforts by uniting the efforts of education and climate actors to reach a common vision to unleash a quantum leap in education systems.
Dubai Cares will mobilize efforts to promote the right of children and youth to access education, based on its wide network of partners in multiple countries, educational institutions, multilateral organizations, United Nations agencies, global mechanisms and the private sector, and build a dialogue on consolidating the status of education as a major solution to the climate crisis through Enabling actors to present innovative practices and scalable solutions to mobilize efforts for a paradigm shift in education and climate action.
