The American company “Google” issued an emergency update to fix the fifth immediate security vulnerability in the “Google Chrome” browser, which is considered one of the highly dangerous security vulnerabilities that attackers exploited during the current year.

The company explained that the update aimed to address the “CVE-2023-5217” vulnerability, through version number 117.0.5938.132 of the browser for desktop devices running Windows and Linux operating systems.

This vulnerability causes the operating system to crash or execute arbitrary code, and is caused by a buffer overflow vulnerability in the open source VP8 encryption, which enables attackers to exploit it to access and manipulate the browser database.
