Emergency landing of an American plane for “disturbing passengers”

A Southwest Airlines flight from Houston, Texas to Columbus, Ohio was forced to make an emergency landing in Little Rock, Arkansas on Saturday afternoon due to passenger disruption.

Flight 192 landed at Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport around 3:30 p.m. local time, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, after “the crew declared an emergency due to passenger discomfort.”

An airline spokesman described the incident to CBS News in an email as “unruly behavior on the part of a passenger.”

An airline spokesman said after landing in Little Rock, the passenger was removed from the flight.

For its part, the FBI confirmed to CBS News that it is investigating the incident. The identity of the suspect has not been revealed.

The FAA said the plane had taken off from William P. Hobby Airport and was bound for John Glenn Columbus International Airport when it was hijacked.

Disturbing the behavior of passengers on airplanes has been a major problem in recent years. In 2021, 5,981 such incidents were reported to the FAA.

The FAA has received 2,178 reports of unruly passenger behavior so far this year.
