“Emergency Landing: American Airlines Flight Returns to Departure Airport After Bird Strike Fire”

by Ethan Caldwell

The travelers thought they would land in Phoenix, Arizona, but returned to the departure airport much earlier than expected. After 39 minutes of flight, a collision with a bird started a fire in the engine of the American Airlines Boeing 737-800. On board, the 173 passengers and their pilot immediately turned around to return to Columbus (Ohio). None of them were injured. This event comes three days after another fire on one of the company’s planes, a few seconds from taking off from Charlotte airport (North Carolina).

On April 21, another company plane caught fire seconds from taking off.
