The 51-year-old father had asked the officials for immediate help early Monday morning because his wife was in labor in the car in front of the police station, the officials announced on Tuesday. When the police officers rushed to the expectant mother’s help, the birth was already in full swing. “The colleagues cheerfully supported the parents-to-be and helped wherever they could,” said the police report on Tuesday.

“Everything went very quickly and quickly,” said a police spokeswoman. A few minutes after the father’s call for help, the first screams of the newborn boy could be heard – even before the ambulance arrived. This brought the 34-year-old and her baby to a hospital. Why the father went to a police station of all places was initially unclear.

According to the German Red Cross, such sudden births are rare. In the Vorderpfalz, for example, there have been two births so far this year during emergency medical operations.
