EM should take place in winter

The European Championship could be postponed to December.

According to the British newspaper “Telegraph”, moving the European Championship into the winter is an option for the European Football Union. With a host of the continental tournament in December 2020, the club competitions could still be played in the summer. Given the spread of the corona virus, UEFA will discuss alternatives to the finals on Tuesday.

It currently seems unlikely that the planned pan-European tournament in twelve countries will kick off on June 12 in Rome in view of the pandemic. The first alternative would be to relocate the European Championship in the summer of 2021. However, this would conflict with the reformed Club World Cup. So the World Federation FIFA would also like an EM tournament in winter. It would also be a test run for the 2022 Winter World Cup in Qatar.
