Elon Musk and Bernie Sanders Discuss Taxes on Twitter: “I Forget You’re Alive”

Tesla CEO and founder Elon Musk held a Twitter debate with Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders on Sunday after he demanded that the rich pay their “fair share” of taxes.

“We must demand that the extremely wealthy pay their fair share. Period, ”Sanders wrote on Twitter.

Musk qualifies under Sanders’ description of “the extremely wealthy”: he is the richest person in the world, with a net worth of $ 285 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Ironically Musk replied to the senator 80-year-old: “I keep forgetting that you’re still alive.”

But it did not end there. Then he wrote, “Do you want me to sell more shares, Bernie? Just say the word, ”referring to the shares it released last Friday worth nearly $ 7 billion.

Sanders’ tweet came amid initiatives roaming Washington to raise taxes for millionaires.

This idea has been put forward as a way to help fund Biden’s $ 1.75 trillion social spending bill, which is still stalled in the House of Representatives due to internal Blue Party negotiations.

Last week Musk made a poll on Twitter in which he asked users if he should sell 10% of his Tesla shares to pay taxes: 58% of voters in his survey answered yes.

After the vote, he sold shares valued at $ 6.9 billion, representing about 3% of his stake. The sale continued yesterday when it sold another 931 million in shares and raised its total sales to 7.8 billion.
