Ellis Faas (58), who stood for make-up without cruelty, oh …

Make-up artist and entrepreneur Ellis Faas has passed away at the age of 58. Her brother and business partner Thijs reports this in a press release and on the Facebook page of Ellis Faas Cosmetics.

The Dutch was published by fashion magazine Vogue Paris has been named one of the most talented make-up artists of her generation. After studying at the Christian Chauveau school for make-up in Paris, she was soon allowed to work with the greats of the earth.

Together with photographer Inez van Lamwseerde, Faas made an award-winning campaign for Louis Vuitton, but her breakthrough came after she had done a shoot for L’Uomo Vogue with Mario Testino. Collaborations with Miles Aldridge, Jean-Paul Gude and Paolo Roversi would follow. Faas has also designed make-up for fashion shows for Chanel, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Yves Saint-Laurent.

In 2019 she launched her own makeup line Ellis Faas. It has grown into one of the leading brands in ethical, ‘cruelty-free’ make-up. Faas products were often vegan and were not tested on animals: the slogan was ‘Only Tested on supermodels’. In countries where animal testing was required, Faas stayed away from the market.

Thijs Faas will now continue the brand.
