Electro-mobility conference: round table on the commitment of local players in the field of electric mobility – AVEM

The Electro-Mobility Assises took place on November 15 and 16 in Marseille. An event co-organized by AVEM and the Departmental Council of Bouches-du-Rhône. It is also in the hemicycle of the Departmental Council that all the round tables were held. Round tables which made it possible to draw up a complete panorama of the ecosystem of this sector. During the second day, one of them focused on the engagement of local players in the field of electric mobility. Five speakers took the floor: Jean-Philippe Mignard (DGA of the Bouches-du-Rhône department), Franck Ferriz from the South Region, Michael Olmos, Célia Charrier and Cécile Balestrini from the Aix-Marseille Provence metropolis.

Bouches-du-Rhône leader in electric vehicles

Jean-Philippe Mignard recalled the reasons for Bouches-du-Rhône’s commitment to the development of electric mobility. A commitment linked to the department’s desire to improve air quality in its territory. In the field of transport, one of the solutions was to encourage the development of electric mobility. However, in 2017, electric vehicle registrations were very low (774) in the department. To have a positive impact on air quality, there was therefore a need to boost them. The Departmental Council therefore established a subsidy of 5,000 euros for the purchase of an electric vehicle. The success was there and the initial objectives were exploded with 11,300 bonuses distributed to date. In 2020, Bouches-du-Rhône even became the leading department in terms of electric vehicle registrations.

Support mechanisms for the South Region

The South Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region also supports the development of electric mobility. It has thus set up several systems that Franck Ferriz presented. The first is support for the deployment of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. To date, with aid up to 40%, the Region has helped finance 535 terminals accessible to the public. Terminals complementing the 400 terminals already deployed. Another device takes the form of aid for the acquisition of electric utility vehicles. An aid, one of the objectives of which is to make Low Emission Zones acceptable to professionals. This system is starting to scale up with around fifty vehicles being subsidized.

A BRT Aixpress for Aix-en-Provence

THE BHNS Aixpress is a concrete example of electric mobility in public transport. Celia Charrier and Michael Olmos presented this High Level Service Bus, inaugurated in September 2019. The Aixpress BHNS crosses Aix-en-Provence from North to South over 7.2 km. A route of more than 80% on its own site, marked out by 19 stations positioned every 350 meters. 16 100% electric 12-meter buses run on this line with a passage frequency of 7 minutes. The buses are recharged by pantograph at the two terminals at the end of the line. A quick recharge that lasts between 3 to 5 minutes. Today, the Aixpress BHNS is a success. It ensures a reliable, fast and regular service, connected with other modes of travel. It is frequented every day by 20,000 travelers.

Vélo +, a long-term rental service for electric bikes

The Aix-Marseille Provence Metropolis also offers a long-term rental electric bicycle service: LeVelo +. Cecile Balestrini presented this service which allows you to rent an electric bike for one year, at an advantageous rate. What gives the opportunity to the metropolitan to try their hand at the practice of the soft modes of displacement on a daily basis. It is also a way of adopting new behaviors before committing to a rather expensive act of purchase. 3 different models are available. The first is a classic bike to discover the comfort of electric assistance. The second is a folding bike, ideal for intermodal journeys and suitable for apartment storage. Finally, the third is a family model offering the possibility of installing child seats in the rear. The objective of the service is to put a fleet of 2,000 bicycles into circulation.
