Electric pylon sabotaged in Gland (VD)

An electric pylon of the very high voltage line (220 Kv) Romanel – Foretaille was sabotaged, probably by explosive, in the town of Gland (VD), the Vaud cantonal police said on Friday. No casualties were caused by this event.

On Friday around 10:50 a.m., the police were informed by motorists of the fall of an electric pylon near the Lausanne – Geneva highway. Security police investigators quickly went to the scene, joined by investigators from the Federal Police Office (fedpol).

Initial findings show that the pylon was sabotaged, probably using explosives, the statement said. The perpetrators have not yet been identified.

A criminal investigation against an unknown person was opened by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Confederation, due to the probable use of explosives.

The two affected 220kV lines, Banlieue Ouest-Foretaille and Crans-Romanel, are out of service and grounded, announced Friday evening the national company for the operation of the Swissgrid network which specifies that the stability of the network is guaranteed. There was no failure in the supply of the transport network.
