Elections for Non-Permanent Members of the UN Security Council 2024-2025: Results and Upcoming Reforms

Elections of new non-permanent members of the Security Council for the period 2024-2025 will be held on June 6. They will only qualify in the Eastern European group, as Slovenia and Belarus are vying for one spot.

From the African countries, Algeria and Sierra Leone will take the seats in the Security Council, from the Pacific region – South Korea, from Latin America – Guyana.

The UN Security Council is responsible for maintaining peace and security in the world. For the sake of this, the Republic of Belarus has the authority to investigate any dispute that could lead to international conflicts.

Since June 1, the chairmanship of the UN Security Council has been taken over by Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates.

UN Secretary General António Guterres said that the UN Security Council needs to be reformed.
