Election in Thuringia: Bodo Ramelow compares election with the rise of the NSDAP

Gabriel blames AKK – “She just stammered nervously”

After the election of the FDP politician Thomas Kemmerich as the Thuringian prime minister with the help of the CDU and AfD, the former SPD chairman Sigmar Gabriel accused the CDU chairman Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer of serious omissions. She would probably lack the instincts to feel how much democracy is in danger here, Gabriel writes in a guest post for the “Tagesspiegel“.

“It just stammered something visibly nervous from the CDU‘ decision-making position “into the microphones and cameras instead of drawing a clear line,” Gabriel criticized. “It will be interesting to see whether she and her colleague, FDP chair Christian Lindner, knew about the plans of their Thuringian friends. If that should be the case, neither belongs to the top of German politics. ”And German social democracy should not tolerate either one or the other as a coalition partner.

“Erfurt is not Weimar, but it’s pretty close,” Gabriel emphasized. “If the CDU and FDP do not correct that, if the prime minister elected in the state parliament does not resign and there are no new elections, then it will damage Germany as a whole.”
