Elderly man hit and killed by tractor driven by son

(ANSA) – CREMONA, 15 AUG – Run over and killed by his son, who was driving a tractor, while reversing in the farmyard of the family business, did not notice his father passing behind the agricultural vehicle. It happened this morning at eleven in a farmhouse in Motta Baluffi, in the province of Cremona. The victim is a 76-year-old farmer.

According to the investigations carried out by the Carabinieri, who remained on the farm for a long time together with the inspectors of the ATS Val Padana to carry out surveys and collect testimonies, starting from the understandably desperate one of the driver of the agricultural vehicle, father and son had been working together since the early morning of August 15th. Specifically, they had been carrying out some work of moving material between the barchessali when, during a short transfer, the elderly man was hit.

It remains to be seen why. Whether due to a simple but fatal oversight, as often happens in similar cases. Or whether, instead, due to a series of coincidences. Two hypotheses are being examined by investigators: the 76-year-old may have suddenly crossed the path of the moving tractor, or bent over to move something on the ground, and the son would not have had the time and the necessary visibility to notice the presence of his parent; or, instead, the driver, in reverse, may have had imperfect visibility due to the type of maneuver performed, in any case not enough to notice the father behind. When the alarm was raised, immediately launched by the victim’s son, the emergency services of Cremona Soccorso di Vescovato arrived on the scene with an ambulance and the personnel of the 118 medical car. But for the 76-year-old, despite the long attempt to revive him, there was nothing that could be done. (ANSA).
