Elden Ring won Game of the Year at the annual The Game Awards. The game was therefore preferred over titles such as God of War Ragnarök and Horizon Forbidden West. The game received a total of four of the seven awards it was nominated for.
Next Game of the year Elden Ring also won awards for Best Director, Best Art Direction, and Best RPG. The game was also nominated for Best Score and Music, Best Audio Design and Best Narrative, but all three awards went to God of War Ragnarök.
While God of War Ragnarök wasn’t named Game of the Year, the game managed to win more awards than Elden Ring. In addition to the three awards mentioned, the Sony title also won Best Performance for Christopher Judge’s voice as Kratos, Innovation in Accessiblity Award and Best Action/Adventure. With that, the PlayStation exclusive won six awards.
God of War Ragnarök also had the best chance of winning the most prizes; this game received the most award show nominations. Dutch studio Guerilla Games’ Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring, with seven nominations, both have three nominations fewer than the God of War game. Forbidden West failed to win any awards at The Game Awards.
In total, 31 prizes were awarded. The nominations were chosen by an international jury and the winners were chosen by that jury and the public.
