Elden Ring will not use Unreal Engine 4; Lighting will be improved over previous games.

In his new post On the ResetEra forums, Omni insider said that Elden Ring is not being developed on Unreal Engine 4, as other rumors have indicated, but on the engine that From Software used in its previous projects.

As I already said, the game is developed on the same engine as the last games of the studio, and not on UE4, contrary to false rumors on 4chan. Some updates have been made, the exact extent of which I do not know. But, of course, it is necessary to make changes and improvements in order to adapt the engine to different types of structure, systems and design.

Although Omni could not go deep into technical improvements, he confirmed that lighting would be one of the improvements, as the system used in the previous games of the team would not be good enough for playing with day and night cycles and dynamic weather.

Lighting is one such update. When you have a dynamic system for changing day and night, the lighting should change and be dynamic to match the time of day. Dawn should not look and feel like noon, and the middle of the day – like twilight or midnight.

Since Bandai Namco and From Software have so far talked a little about Elden Ring, it is clear that the game will not be released in the first half of the year, despite the hints provided by the developer. Omni also raised this issue.

At this point, it should be obvious that the game will not be released in June 2020. It makes no sense to scour the entire Internet in order to find the release date, which at the moment simply does not exist. From Software and Bandai Namco will announce the release date as soon as they are ready.

Elden Ring is currently being developed for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
